Thanh Son NGUYEN

Research Assistant

BSc. Biological Science | Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

About

Nguyen Thanh Son earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science (Honors, Highest Distinction) from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) under the prestigious ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship. During his studies, he developed a strong research focus on cellular biology and biochemistry, culminating in his Final Year Project in Guillaume Thibault’s lab. There, he investigated the impact of mitochondrial dysfunction induced by rotenone on the unfolded protein response (UPR) and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) morphology in RPE1 cells. Building on this foundation, Nguyen transitioned to a Research Assistant role, where he is currently working to establish a robust organoid model to elucidate protein and lipid trafficking mechanisms within the ER.

Project

His work focuses on the impact of cellular senescence on RPE1 cells, with particular emphasis on the morphology and function of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). His project investigates how senescence influences the unfolded protein response (UPR) under conditions of proteotoxic or lipid bilayer stress, aiming to better understand the role of senescence in disrupting ER homeostasis and cellular stress responses.
