About
Ahmed Muhammad is a PhD student at the Guillaume Thibault Lab, School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. Ahmed graduated with distinction from Zagazig University, earning a B.Sc. in Chemistry and Biochemistry, where he displayed exceptional academic prowess and passion for scientific inquiry. With extensive experience spanning genotyping, cell culture, virology, and bacteriology, Ahmed has worked with esteemed institutions including the National Blood Transfusion Center and the Egyptian Army's Central Laboratories.
His research endeavors are centered on cellular health and disease mechanisms, driven by his commitment to enhancing global health outcomes. Ahmed’s dedication to scientific excellence has been recognized through various honors, including the prestigious Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA).
Project
Ahmed’s research focuses on unveiling the intricate regulation mechanisms of the unfolded protein response (UPR) in autophagy. His work explores how UPR, a cellular process activated during stress, modulates autophagy pathways to maintain cellular homeostasis and prevent disease. This groundbreaking study has significant implications for understanding age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a retinal disease characterized by progressive vision loss. By elucidating the role of UPR in autophagy, Ahmed aims to uncover therapeutic targets that could revolutionize AMD treatment and improve the quality of life for millions of patients worldwide.
